Demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren confiscate the Annabelle doll from nurses Debbie and Camilla, who claimed that the doll often performed violent activities in their apartment. During the drive back home, the doll summons spirits to attack Ed, but he narrowly survives. Annabelle is locked in a sacred glass case in the couple's artifacts room that is blessed by Father Gordon to ensure the evil is contained. Million worldwide and received mixed reviews from critics, who found it less frightening than its predecessors. Fun for fans even if it isn't as frightening as some of its predecessors, Annabelle Comes Home suggests there's still some life left in the Conjuring franchise. When the Warrens left for the night, were they by any chance leaving for The Conjuring 3?

At one point in the scripting stage, Mary Ellen was supposed to be Judy Warren's cousin, but that changed at an unspecified time. However, given the fact that there was some confusion about that on set means it's possible it was more of a last minute change. Though since it's a rather inconsequential detail in the grand scheme of things, changing it late in the game wouldn't mean much for the film. Given that Annabelle Comes Home exists within The Conjuring Universe, quite a few Easter eggs are hidden throughout the movie that hint at the Annabelle movies and the other franchise installments.

Sometime later, the Warrens welcome Mary Ellen, who will be in charge of babysitting their daughter, Judy, at the house while they travel overnight to investigate another case. At school, Judy notices a ghostly priest that begins following her. Mary Ellen's friend, Daniela, arrives uninvited to the Warrens' home, who is secretly curious about speaking to the dead. She sneaks into the artifacts room and starts examining every item, ultimately trying to contact her late father.
It's a standard operating procedure for the "fun best friend" to be killed off rather early in horror movies. WithAnnabelle Comes Home, the Conjuring film universe gets a lighter, fun-filled entry led by a cast of young actresses and new characters build around the Warren family. Set in the same year asThe Conjuring,Annabelle Comes Home picks up with demonologists, paranormal investigators and loving parents, the Warrens , when their growing reputation is starting to take a toll on their daughter, Judy . But when the Warrens head away for the night, leaving Judy with her baby sitter Mary Ellen and Mary Ellen's rebellious BFF Daniella , the demonic doll Annabell comes out to play, unleashing a funhouse of horrors on the young girls.
New Line Cinema and Annabelle Comes Home's crew wants the film to feel like it was shot in the 1970s. As previously mentioned, the vast majority of Annabelle Comes Home takes place inside the Warrens' home, thus making it more of a contained film compared to the other installments. And to prevent the movie from being claustrophobic, while also trying to make the house feel like a maze, Spence designed the Warrens' house to be somewhat of a maze.
Spence has brought so many "creepy" artifacts to life on-screen over the years that she would welcome the opportunity to create one herself. And if given that chance, the one thing she would want to have a spooky backstory is a telegraph. It could happen one day, too, if Spence chooses to move into directing as she hopes to do, which, considering her expertise in production design for horror films, could make for a terrifying story. Do you inherit a sound team, lighting crew and cinematographers from the Conjuring Universe who give these films a consistent look and tone?
