Annabelle Comes Home is the third movie in the Annabelle series and the seventh installment in the Conjuring Universe, but it's aiming to be different than all of those previous installments. As the Annabelle series' third installment, Annabelle Comes Home continues the story of the infamous Annabelle doll, which began with John R. Leonetti's 2014 film. But it's also uniquely placed in the franchise's timeline, thus making it a sort of midquel to Annabelle and The Conjuring films. Determined to keep Annabelle from wreaking more havoc, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren lock the possessed doll in the artifacts room in their house.
Saying anything beyond that, such as revealing why her character feels the need to know more about morbid stories (including watching the Warrens' tapes), would be spoiling the film. Of course, much more about Judy Warren will be uncovered throughout the story, as she's the central character. Plus, her interaction with Daniela and the furthering of her friendship with Mary Ellen will also flourish. Sarife considers Annabelle Comes Home the perfect opportunity to conquer her fear of dolls. Principal photography commenced by mid-October and officially wrapped in December 2018 inLos Angeles. I think this third Annabelle movie was trying to keep the cycle of Conjuverse going, and somehow, it successfully did. The attention to detail through design, the cinematography, and the film score makes the movie look and feels very much retro, and the effort with it, is paid-off. It also emphasize the theme about facing-your-fears, the compassion of friendship, and the subtle message of obidience. However, this sort of emphasis makes the natural essence of turmoil within the movie's concept blurry, unheavy and inconsequential. The most things it failed to do is to keep the viewers' engagement with the characters.

Some of these characters is lacking strong qualities of dimention in their traits. It did not deliver the scare factor, and if it did, the execution is not strong enough. Imagine a war without any explosion, no damage dealt, and no one have gotten into a serious war shock after the climatic commotions – this is how I felt watching this movie. In this third Annabelle movie's case, the potential of its story is wasted because of continuous cheap scare-centric. But the question is, is Annabelle Comes Home a waste of time? Quite frankly, it is entertaining on the first watch.
Spence has brought so many "creepy" artifacts to life on-screen over the years that she would welcome the opportunity to create one herself. And if given that chance, the one thing she would want to have a spooky backstory is a telegraph. It could happen one day, too, if Spence chooses to move into directing as she hopes to do, which, considering her expertise in production design for horror films, could make for a terrifying story. Do you inherit a sound team, lighting crew and cinematographers from the Conjuring Universe who give these films a consistent look and tone?
Yet it holds back on the blood and violence, not really earning its R rating. Annabelle Comes Home is one of the weaker entries in the series, but it still delivers some good scares. To mark the premiere of 'Chucky' Season 2, these are the best spooky doll movies.

Pictures announced that a then-untitled film in the Conjuring Universe franchise would be released on July 3, 2019. Later that month, it was announced that the film would be another installment in theAnnabelleseries, with Dauberman signed on to write and direct the film in his directorial debut, based on a story treatment written by Dauberman and Wan.
